Cross

It all begins with an idea. In this instance my client wanted a cross and also to have Psalm 23 in the painting as well.

inspiration paintings

She liked the “cups” in the middle of the first painting and the overall feel and textures of the second painting. Then I used the Christmas tree painting as an example of the script I could write the Psalm in.

Our first step was to determine a size that would work with Nicki’s budget. She wanted a piece to be the focal over her couch. We ended up choosing 24x48 for the size. Then I worked up some layout options for her on where and how big the cross would be.

After she choose the painting I had done previously for the inspiration to fill the cross and the colors she wanted, I got to work!

PROGRESS PHOTOS

I kept Nicki totally up-to-date on the progress of her painting every step of the way. I wanted her to have the control to edit things as we went if there was something not working.

BUMP in the road

I love to put paper, specifically pages from books or encyclopedias, in the background of my paintings. I thought this might work to add some bible pages as another element for this painting. After trying it out, we both decided it was not working and it got painted over it.

last minute change

Once the cross and the background had been completed, I worked up a digital proof of what the painting would look like with Psalm 23 laid out around the cross. Originally we had been thinking white text, but we both agreed it looked kind of harsh. So we went with black on black and you can see just how stunning it turned out in the final painting!
