It all begins with an idea. In this instance my client wanted to mark a new beginning in her life after a very rough patch. The inspirational poem by Maya Angelou is what got her through and onto the next chapter of her life.

Michelle had a lot of ideas in the first stages of deciding exactly what she wanted. She loved my work and knew she wanted a custom piece, but it was a matter of narrowing down the possibilities. After several weeks of messaging back and forth, she choose the Maya Angelou poem as her inspiration.
Then we determined a size that would work with Michelle’s budget and that would fit her space. We ended up choosing 24x48.
She sent me a chair she wanted the painting colors to complement and a photo of the space it would live in her home. She also sent me several color palettes of previous paintings she liked as reference. The more details I have about your expectations, the better!

Because there were so many factors involved with this painting, and the words needed to be placed just perfectly the first time, we went through numerous rounds of digital proofs before any work started on the canvas.

It did take me 2 tries to get the background color just perfect. The first try was too red. But once that was complete, the rest of the painting really fell into place without any hiccups.
I kept Michelle informed through out the process with videos and photos of the painting. She was very happy with the end result!
